TS 16949:2002 is a model for a Quality Management System aimed specifically at the Automotive Industry, and it covers the particular requirements for the application of ISO 9001:2000 for Automotive Production and relevant service part organisations. An ISO technical specification (ISO/TS) represents an agreement between the members of a technical committee, and is accepted for publication if it is approved by 2/3 of the members of the committee casting a vote.
ISO/TS 16949:2002, was prepared by the International Automotive Task Force (IATF), and Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association Inc. (JAMA), with support from ISO/TC 176, Quality Management and Quality Assurance.
