ISO 9001:2008 Quality Standard

ISO 9001:2008 A brief overview from Ormston Associates Limited.

ISO 9001:2008 is a model for a Quality Assurance Management System.

A Quality Management System, or Quality System as it is usually termed, is defined as:-

“The organisational structure, responsibilities, procedures, processes and resources for implementing Quality Management”

In recent years, organisations in both the public and private sectors have had their attention drawn to the vital importance of Quality in the goods and services they provide to their customers. If any organisation is to survive, it must provide products (i.e. goods or services as appropriate) which customers want to buy in preference to those offered by its competitors.

In November 2008, the British Standard ISO 9001:2008 was published.  The revisions do not have a major effect but are intended to clarify various points throughout the Standard, and to expand the meaning of the word 'Product' to include manufactured items or services.

From November 2008, all new applications for assessment will be expected to work to ISO 9001:2008.  Existing registrations will need to obtain an updated version of the Standard prior to their next assessment.
